Previously known as "Minniehaha", this original log cabin is now named after the large creek flowing right behind it
Built around 1928/29, this Appalachian log cabin is now almost a century old. While the logs seem to be original, the white chinking (white painted mortar in between the logs) most likely was updated over time.
The main structure of the building seems different from the later additions: the bathroom is completed with wooden boards, while the back porch was screened-in later and still has the same railings inside as the front porch of the cabin.
Overall the lodge is a two-story structure with a large stone chimney on one side. The first floor interior is an open space with a kitchen, dining area and the living room. The large stone fireplace makes an attractive center point, especially on a cold day. Bathroom and screened-in porch doors are also to be found here.
A flight of stairs leads to the second floor which is also an open area under a gabled roof with two dormers - one on the front and one on the back of the cabin.
Location
The cabin is located on the leased grounds of the Pine Grove Furnace State Park, which is surrounded by the 90,000 acre Michaux State Forest.
This part of the Appalachians constitutes the very Northern point of the well known Blue Ridge Mountains (second oldest mountains in the world) with their attractive cultural and touristic heritage. And just a few minutes away from the cabin is the very middle point of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (2,190+ miles long), which stretches over 14 states all the way from Georgia to Maine.
To summarize, cabin's location can be pin-pointed as follows: Appalachian Mountains > Blue Ridge Mountains > South Mountain > Michaux State Forest > Pine Grove Furnace State Park
